My Students

My school is located in an urban neighborhood which consists of single and multiple family homes, apartments and a low income housing development. The population is transient with students transferring in and out throughout the year.

I teach mathematics to two classes both of whom are inquisitive, energetic and hard working boys and girls.

For some, this is their first experience in school dealing with rules, schedules, structure and organization. As their teacher I hope to instill a sense of responsibility and citizenship while teaching the basic academic concepts and skills.

My Project

Our new mathematics curriculum consists of many manipulatives and materials for math centers to use during daily instruction. The multicolored storage unit will allow students to retrieve and store the materials necessary to work independently, with a partner or in a small group.

With Seat Sacks students from both classes can keep their individual materials and supplies separate from others while providing quick and easy access for use throughout the school day.

As a result, students will become more independent and responsible in daily routines. This will also allow more time for large and small group instruction which will help increase academic achievement.
