Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach fantastic students at a Title I school on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. We love to learn through hands-on activities and authentic experiences in the classroom, especially during small group instruction. Our students are in need of essential resources and materials that will benefit them during reading and writing lessons.

Our school is truly a barrier free school, serving all students who come through our doors.

Almost 10% of our students are English language learners and 33% are students with disabilities. Almost half of our students stay in after-school until after 5 PM each day while their parents work.

My Project

Staying organized plays a huge factor in reading, writing and math success. Keeping track of the many differentiated tools used during our lessons is key in making sure students implement the strategies we teach them. Having colorful bins, trays and organizational materials ensures that all students will have access to the mediators that promote making things manageable. The color coordination will help students identify the subject, and the purpose for each bin and help them make connections to what comes next in our schedule. Bins will be used for leveled texts and paper trays will be put in our writing center. This will allow for paper choices, finished work and folders to remain orderly. Book bins will also be used to replace the current warped, used and weathered bins in our classroom shared library. We thank you so much for supporting our love of organization!
