Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are faced with several obstacles both in and out of the classroom. Many of these students have very little opportunity for life experiences outside of their own.

My students thrive when challenged and are eager to succeed but some do not have the means outside of school.

My students are creative, inquisitive, and spontaneous.

They like to move, they love to do hands-on activities, and they crave positive reinforcement. Many of my students are being raised in single parent households and receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. From the moment they walk into my classroom, I try my best to focus on their potential and growth while they are with me. I may not be able to control their home lives, however, I can certainly control their experience during the school day. By doing this in a creative and positive way, I am hopeful to inspire my learners to challenge themselves.

My Project

Fifth grade is complicated! The transitions, the hormones, and the papers. It's enough to make anyone flustered. My students travel between five different classrooms each day.

Students with good organizational skills have the ability to create and maintain systems to keep track of information and materials.

This will be the first year these students are thrust into multiple classes, multiple books, multiple schedules, and assignments.

Over the years I have seen that many students are not fully prepared for what lies ahead of them and often get overwhelmed and frustrated when they realize they haven't learned how to truly organize their physical environments for success. By getting my groups these storage organizers, I can provide them with the opportunity and skills necessary to organize and take responsibility for their projects and materials in order to guide them onto the correct path for middle school. These storage organizers will make it easy for students to store their class materials and belongings so that they may be prepared and ready to learn as soon as they enter the classroom. Organization is not only a classroom skill, but a lifelong skill that should be practiced every day.
