Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our students are young, quite young. They are learning skills each and everyday with every experience they go through. They have grasped the idea that all the materials in the room are at their disposal yet, they must be respectful and use the materials appropriately because they are for everyone to share.

We are lucky enough to have a large space and many materials but we lack storage organizers and supplies.

There are times when two games become one, simply because one games' box was missing. There are other times when students need to share the crayons but we only have two racks that hold a limited amount of crayons. We would save so much time if we had more storage organizers and supplies set up around the classroom, instead of having to take a mini-pause to look for something that can hold the chart up on the board after the tape doesn't stick anymore. We need things easily accessible both for the students and teachers. We want things that will make our days much smoother.

My Project

'Organization is Key!' would serve the students, assistants, and I in many ways.

The items in this project are essential to our classroom.

These would allow my students to easily access pencils, pens, markers, crayons, gluesticks, and scissors at their table. A classroom supply caddy will go in each center and hold a note pad, pencils, and pens for students to write or sketch something special about their experience in the center for the day. If they love the building they made with the blocks, I think it would be great to encourage them to draw it or write about it at the time. This would promote the development of early literacy skills. The craft jars and storage bins would help with the display of toys and materials around the classroom.

The Sharpies, in blue and red, are specific to the dual language aspect of the classroom. When I make bulletin signs, sentence starters on sentence strips, they need to be color-coded: blue for English and red for Spanish. I constantly write in front of the children to demonstrate print concepts and the importance of writing. I run out of blue and red Sharpies and quicker than anyone else I know!
