My students are from a small, rural community in Jasonville, IN with many coming from low-income homes. My students all have identified special needs and varying learning abilities with IEPs or 504s. A few of my students have behavioral concerns resulting from an experienced trauma. This makes learning in a traditional classroom setting difficult. I want my special education students to have access to a nurturing workspace filled with accessible materials that best fit their individual needs.
I want to inspire my students to work hard, increase focus, collaborate with one another and reach their goals.
They will benefit from the opportunity to make choices and be involved in their learning process and educational journey. My classroom and learning opportunities are designed for them and to promote learning; we are just missing a few pieces!
My Project
In our special education classroom, my students benefit best from hands-on learning. Hands-on learning means we have A LOT of manipulative materials. This clear storage rack would allow us to organize our items better and make them more accessible for our students. In addition to that benefit, it would free up counter space and reduce clutter, which helps increase student engagement with fewer distractions. My students are very responsible and do a great job cleaning up. Having all the materials in one organizer, that job would be much easier for them to handle.
