Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are a diverse group of individuals that come from all different parts of the five boroughs. My classroom is an ICT (Integrated Collaborative Teaching Classroom) with a mix of both students with disabilities and ENL learners.

My students are bright individuals with various academic levels of learning needs.

They value the importance of learning for growth and development. We are a Title I school, where there is a high percentage of students that come from low-income households in which they are still required to meet the academic standards set forth by our school community.

We create different opportunities for student learning and growth in the classroom that is tailored to their learning needs. It is important for my students to learn from one another and value the importance of their education as young children.

My Project

As we are planning for students to come back to school, sturdy and colorful book bins in the library will make it easier for students to browse and shop for books on their reading level and interests. The book bins will also make it easily accessible for students to learn to return books into the proper bins. This will also teach students to become organized, which is beneficial to them in the long run.

Students will be allowed to carry the clear book baggies/pouches from school, back home and vice versa with materials such as reading books, decodable texts that they need to practice, for easier accessibility.

As we are transitioning back to school, students will also need socio-emotional support- the calming center in our classroom will provide students with materials for a safe, self-regulated space.
