My Students

My classroom is like my students' home-away-from-home. It is a place where I am fostering a love of learning with a sense of independence. My classroom is set-up to be a place where my students can learn and feel as though they are somewhere safe.

Our school is the poorest and one of the most dangerous cities in the U.S.

School is typically the only safe haven these kids know. My students live in a city where the dynamics can change in the blink of an eye. Even though my students live in a city that has its ups and downs, they are always eager to come to school to learn and experience new and exciting things. The students in my class are all classified as "Autistic" and as one student said, "We are all autistic in our own ways." All the students in my building look out for my students and they will give them "high-5s" when they see them. I want to be able to provide my students with every experience that they will need to be successful in this world.

My Project

The items that I have chosen will help the students with learning how to organize their study material. I would like to have various classroom storage containers will help my students to become better organized along with assisting me with teaching them how to be stronger and more organized students. I have chosen various items that will help my students to become more organized, as well as becoming more in control in their learning environment. These items include storage carts with all the necessary items that they will need when compiling their study material (i.e, rings for index cards and folders for their papers).

Organization and learning are two key important skills and concepts that I feel are important for all students to master while in my classroom.

The organizer unit will have all the necessary items that my students will need to be successful in the classroom (i.e. pencils, index cards, paper, as well as other necessary items that all students need in the classroom). My students strive to be independent and this unit will allow them to attain the supplies they need, while learning how to manage their learning independently.
