My Students

I am a Special Education teacher in a third grade General Education Class. My class consists of 27 students who are broken into 3 groups - each day 9 students will come into the school for in-person instruction, while the other 18 students are remote.

My goal is for all students to gain the skills they will need to be successful in the future.

Modern learning is about collaborating with others, solving complex problems, critical thinking, developing different forms of communication and leadership skills, and improving motivation and productivity.

My Project

We are all operating in the shadow of a global pandemic, and it is disorienting and limiting. Business as usual is unrealistic BUT we are determined to provide an exceptional year for our students. Making sure all students are safe and practicing social distancing, teachers are being asked to move classrooms and create a welcoming classroom with limited supplies. When teachers go back to school this fall, the classroom as we’ve known it will be gone, and our instruction will be more critical than ever. We need to create flexible, adaptable assignments that students can complete in different environments.

Engaging students is more essential than ever: Instruction will be a mix of online and in-person instruction.

Please help me create a welcoming classroom environment so when they do have the opportunity to attend class in-person I can provide opportunities for students to think deeply, to connect with their peers, and to get excited about learning again.

The physical set-up of a classroom is important because it is the first thing a student sees when they walk in. Factors such as unorganized bookshelves, unruly and random desk patterns, and excess clutter can all make a difference… and not for the better. If the room is disorderly and unkempt, it reflects badly on the educator. A messy, unorganized classroom also creates a sense of instability. It is important to not only keep a tidy classroom, but to appropriately utilize space as well.

There are many pieces to the puzzle of a successful classroom. One of the most pertinent pieces to this puzzle is organization. With the supplies listed above: bulletin board paper, boarders, markers, folders, printer, ink, card stock you can help me create a positive learning environment.
