Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach fantastic students at a Title I school on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. We love to learn through hands-on activities and authentic experiences in the classroom, especially during small group instruction. Almost 10% of our students are English language learners and 33% are students with disabilities. Almost half of our students stay in after-school until after 5 PM each day while their parents work.

Our school is truly a barrier free school, serving all students who come through our doors.

Helping students achieve their dreams is our goal. Our students are in need of essential resources and materials that will benefit them during instruction.

My Project

Our classroom is color coded by subject and an organized place. We have created systems that allow for students to be independent and successful in transitioning from subject to subject. Everything is accessible to students so that they feel ownership over the materials they use. Clear bins will help increase accessibility because students will be able to see the materials that are stored inside.

Our closet space is extremely limited, so maximizing the area we have is essential.

The bins will be placed on shelving so that students are responsible for maintaining the area and keeping it neat and organized. With your donation expensive materials such as books, math counters, portfolios, word games, markers, crayons, pencils, and folders will be stowed away safely. Our sacred cleaning supplies will be easily accessible and available to replenish in the classroom. The replenishing of classroom supplies will now be made seamless and done quickly by classroom monitors. No time will be wasted searching for tissue boxes! The bins are made of waterproof plastic, and are able to withstand hot/cold temperatures. In addition to the organizational benefits they yield, they are also made with anti-slide stops to prevent shifting when stacked. We know that the effort put into sorting materials and creating new systems will benefit our students for the long run! Organization is the key!
