Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our students are from a Title I school in Queens, New York where 100 percent of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. Our school serves students in grades 6-8 and provides rigorous academics, fantastic teachers, and a safe learning environment. As a teacher in a low-income/high-poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom.

Science is more than just scientific concepts, we want to teach our students life skills like how to stay organized and take proper notes!

Many of my students get used or hand me-down clothes, school materials, shoes, etc. Having new supplies not only gets them excited about learning but helps students take pride and ownership of their materials and learning as well.

As a sped teacher, each of my students needs customized learning materials in order to accommodate their different learning styles and learning goals. Due to this, Science and Social Studies have teamed up to create materials so students can share one binder between both classes. The binders are needed as spiral notebooks interrupt their writing with the wire. The dividers will help to organize materials to ease students learning.

Our hope is we will use these materials to teach our students life skills that will help them be successful adults. The key to being successful is staying organized and knowing what details are important to gaining the information you need about the subject. We hope to accomplish this with strong note-taking skills.
