Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am an English and AP teacher at a Title I school in East Las Vegas. Although the pandemic has been challenging for my students in and outside of the classroom they continue to demonstrate a tremendous amount of grit and overall passion for learning. The community where my school is located is among the most impacted by COVID-19. Many students struggled with attendance and did not read any books at home during distance learning. As a result, many students are struggling to complete independent reading assignments, and have a hard time comprehending text. They are quickly frustrated by challenging reading assignments and struggle with problem-solving.

My Project

My project will support my students in learning how to stay organized so they can become more successful students. They are in multiple advanced classes and will benefit from prioritizing their workload and learning how to plan for success. The folders will help with this venture. The markers are for their creative and collaborative projects. As advanced students they are often asked to do essays and research, but have little opportunity to think outside the box and be creative. The markers and folders will allow for this creativity and organization in my classroom.
