My Students

My students are all on the autism spectrum and require support to complete most tasks. My students range from kindergarten to 8th grade and come from low-income families and attend a high needs school with few resources and not enough funds to meet the students' needs.

The students have smiles on their faces and are excited to learn when they enter our school.

The students require an adaptive daily living skills curriculum to meet their needs. My students do not learn best from traditional lessons and instead require hands-on experiences to make learning meaningful.

My Project

The goal of this project is to teach my students vocational life skills. I would like these materials to create a student-run snack cafe. Students will be in charge of stocking shelves, checking inventory, greeting costumers, and ringing up costumers. Since we are a Title I school and service students from all over NYC we do not have an involved PTA and have very little funding or opportunities to raise money. Once the store is up and running we will use the profits to run school-wide events such as the Valentine's social and field day. The students will feel a sense of purpose and pride when they have the opportunity to "work" in the cafe.
