My Students

Imagine the thrill that students have when they get to incorporate technology into their learning. Taking quizzes on the computer is so much more thrilling and rewarding than paper and pencil for students--plus, Study Island can read these quizzes to the students!

I have 25 smart, talented, and curious first graders.

They love to learn, draw, and discuss things as a class. They come from an area that is high-poverty, but that does not stop them from wanting to learn the most that they can. The students are so caring--they bring drawings to teachers daily. They give hugs all the time. Many cry when they have to leave school--they want to stay and continue learning. Our school works to foster the excitement of education for these students, and to encourage them to continue working toward their education even beyond high school.

My Project

My students will use these chrome books in order to work with programs that help them organize the data that they collect in their science experiments. They will use the chrome books to work on their favorite program - Study Island! Study Island is a program that quizzes students on concepts that we have learned all week. If they achieve at least an 80% on a weekly quiz, they get to play a mini game! This helps the students strive to do the best that they can do, while also teaching them effective study habits.

This project will make a difference by allowing my students to achieve the most that they can achieve.

They may not have the same resources as students who are more fortunate, BUT they are just as excited if not more excited than those students are about learning. My students will further their growth as individuals and as students with these chrome books. In a world where technology is becoming more and more prevalent, we can't let our younger students fall through the cracks.
