I am a school nurse in a city public school catering to a great group of kids who unfortunately are in a position of need. These kids come to school each day ready to learn with their positive attitudes ready and their abilities to care about their classmates health and safety ready. Many of these kids are extremely limited in finances at home and are lacking in basic needs such as hygiene items, warm things, ability to wash clothes and very importantly they might have one set of uniform clothes with nothing to change into in case of accidents or dirty clothes. I am hoping to provide some of these basic for them with items such as new underwear, socks, jackets, hats and mittens, toothbrushes and toothpaste, deodorant, and most importantly spare uniform clothes.
My Project
My project is to provide students, who need them, with clean underwear and uniforms as often the little ones have accidents and they do not have spare clothes. They can't learn effectively while sitting in the nurses office and they can't learn effectively while uncomfortable.
Many of the kids can't afford lice treatment that is needed among elementary children.
I would like to have a few treatments on hand to help those who are truly in need.
Some of the children miss breakfast at home or miss lunch at school for various reasons, My hope was to stock some healthy snacks in my office for them when needed.
And finally, I requested a few health educational materials for both entertainment and learning while waiting in the nurses office.
