Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have a group of third grade students who are highly enthusiastic and eager to learn something new every single day! My students always try their best at everything and anything despite the challenges that they face in their daily lives.

My students live in an impoverished area of South Los Angeles.

All of my students come from low-income families. We are a Title I school where one hundred percent of our students receive free meals. As a Title 1 school we have limited supplies, limited resources, and very low on the technology scale.

My Project

I envision my students learning about financial literacy through the use of an iPad. Students will complete a project on advantages and ways to save money. They will do an individual project in which they select a short-term financial goal of their choice such as purchase of a new toy, bike, or video game. They will think about something that they desire to purchase and they will develop a plan to achieve their goal, based on money saving strategies that they researched about. They will also have access to apps like Count Money, Freefall Money, Make Change, & the 100s of other apps available. They will have the opportunity to employ technology in engaging ways to help refine, review, and enhance financial literacy through identifying and counting money, making money amounts, making change, go "shopping" & learn how to earn and spend money.

Having an iPad with an Otter Box protective case in our classroom will help make learning financial literacy fun, but most importantly it will bring the numbers and money saving research to life.

This project is very important because it will prepare my students for the future, they will be provided with the opportunity of becoming adults that are financially responsible. Thank you for your help and support.
