This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My project is dedicated to fostering a deep love of reading among my dual immersion second-grade students, who thrive on exploring stories in both Spanish and English. Unfortunately, our school library has a very limited selection of bilingual books, making it difficult for students to access literature that reflects their linguistic and cultural experiences. To bridge this gap, I am working to expand my classroom library, ensuring that my students have a rich collection of books that nurture their curiosity and inspire a lifelong passion for reading. By providing a diverse range of stories, I aim to support their literacy development while also fostering a greater appreciation for the multicultural world around them.

After experiencing the warm bond that forms between teacher and student when sharing a meaningful story, I made it a personal goal to build a robust classroom library for my current and future students.

I work in Long Beach, a community bursting with diversity and engagement, where my students demonstrate incredible enthusiasm for learning about the world through books. Knowing this, I have been intentional in selecting literature that represents a variety of cultures, perspectives, and experiences. I want my students to have instant access to stories that reflect the beauty of our diverse world and encourage them to see themselves as part of a larger, interconnected community.
