Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"Computers themselves, and software yet to be developed, will revolutionize the way we learn,"-Steve Jobs My students need a laptop computer to broaden their knowledge and create independent thinkers for the future.

My students are English Language learners who could benefit from having access to a computer in class.

My students come from low income families and can't afford to have technology at home. My students are in kindergarten and they are eager to learn through visual tools. We are fortunate to have some technology provided in the classroom. The budget cuts have made it difficult to provided maintenance to our technology. School is the ideal place to access the Internet for research and educational software. A laptop will allow them the opportunity to have access to the different ways our new language arts and Math programs introduce curriculum. These programs keep kids engaged through videos, games, power points, and interactive e-manipulatives.

My Project

A laptop computer will give my students the practice they need with technology and help them practice their literacy, oral skills and math skills. This technology will allow them to gain more practice with phonics, fluency, and reading comprehension, and other various literacy applications. I have an document reader in my classroom, however, a laptop would be a great addition to use for showing students educational websites relating to what they are learning. It can be used to project unit openers, interactive math programs, and enrichment DVDs. We live in a world surrounded by technology, and this educational tool will benefit them today and in their future. This will also reach the visual learners in this age of technology. Students need various methods of engagement. It is difficult to compete with television and video games.

Every child needs the opportunity to learn using new updated technology.

Having a laptop in my class will further enhance learning through visual and audio forms. The speakers will allow them to listen to stories and music that can be played through the laptop. Sometimes students need to hear different voices rather than the teacher. Often times the voice and visual create a bridge for students to retain information. A laptop will allow my students to access a new advanced learning tool.
