Opening Eyes to the Prejudice of the Past

Help me give my students a variety of books open their eyes to the difficult history of prejudice in our country.

My Students

My students are a fun-loving group of children. They really are ready to learn about the world around them and begin to feel successful and grown-up.

They are just beginning to be aware of how our country developed, so they love hearing about its history and the strong people who formed it.

My Project

These books can allow my students to identify with the pain and triumph of people and events in history. The books can let them see that all cultures have feelings, beauty, and strength. Some are fiction while others are biographical.

I love to use picture books to let students identify with a character in order for them to experience the victories of people who have held on to their courage and dignity in spite of prejudice and hate.

I also added a classroom pencil sharpener in order to keep that constant chore more hands-free.
