Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am the fortunate teacher of 17 eager students from an urban area of Las Vegas, Nevada. We are a Title I-Tier 1 school with students coming from many cultures and with various home languages. Such a beautiful mixture. My students live in a high-poverty area, and many have had trauma in their life for being such a young age. Nonetheless, these students come to school enthusiastic about their learning and have a passion to soak in as much knowledge as they can. Each has their own story, their own voice, and their own interests that I want to guide in developing.

My Project

My students are book-loving avid readers who love where books can take them. I often see a book passed from student to student as they share their excitement for that particular book. Help me achieve a high-quality reading environment with books at various levels and genres. Books that expose them to different cultures and help create lifelong readers by developing reading comprehension skills. All of these books requested have been chosen with my students' interests and reading levels in mind. I have asked the class what types of books they would like to see in our library and would spark their interest in reading and learning about. By receiving the requested items, my students will be provided the opportunity to "Open Up Their World" and further their reading/literacy growth.
