Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
The students I work with come from humble surroundings. Many of them are children of immigrants who came to this country seeking better opportunities for their offspring. They know the struggles and sacrifices of their parents. This awareness motivates them to work hard and make the most of their education.
I see myself as one of their biggest cheerleaders and for that reason, I work just as hard to go above and beyond in my role as their teacher.
My students are eager to learn and they know that education will unlock many doors of opportunity for them. They inspire me every day and I hope that I motivate them to keep trying and pushing onward in the face of barriers, challenges, and uncertainty.
My Project
I am seeking a class subscription to Scholastic's Upfront magazine, a resource that informs students about current events and other newsworthy topics. I used this resource with my sophomores and juniors last school year during distance learning and it was fantastic as a supplemental resource to my teaching. It focuses on news stories and themes that are connected to the readings in our textbook. So it allowed me to create these bridges of learning for my students that made everything we read much more relevant to them.
This year we will be in person for school and I would love to continue to enhance students' learning with Upfront magazine.
Students respond well to learning today's current events through high quality, engaging, and professional writing that are geared towards a teenage audience. This is exactly what Upfront magazine does. It allows students to practice their reading comprehension and critical thinking skills as they expand their knowledge of the world they live in.
