Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

A typical day in my classroom involves 25 wonderful second graders that try their hardest to learn the most they can with the resources available to them. Where the funky, fun teacher tries her best to create a classroom full of excitement for all the students.

Let me be blunt...My kids rock and they are the best!

They are fun loving kids with huge hearts. They stay positive in situations that would crumble an adult. Some sit on a bus for almost an hour just to get to school every morning. While others get their only meals at school. Yet there are always smiles on their faces. Instead of asking what they received for their birthdays I ask if they did anything fun. The answers can warm my heart and break it at the same time. "I went to my cousin's house and played with their computer"-(boy with a huge smile), "I ate a whole cupcake" -(girl that thought one cupcake was an awesome birthday present). Then you get answers like "my dad called me from jail", or "We didn't have any money to do/get anything." Almost all my students are low income and struggle to just get by. Most of my students don't have a computer at home or much technology at all to use/learn with. The best part is to see the kindness and strength they have during such low times.

My Project

One of the many ways I will use the materials is as a center. This way, everyone will have the opportunity to use them and get the most out of them. I would love for them to be able to read books on a computer. This will make reading fun and exciting. I strongly doubt any students will say don't like reading while using a tablet. They will also be able to interact with the story and build vocabulary, which most are lacking due to the fact that English is their second language. I can also use the tablet for math. Math can be scary and intimidating but make it a game and the fun begins. Being excited to learn really helps retain the information that is learned so there will not be as much loss of knowledge using the tablets in the classroom. Another way I would love to use these is as an intervention for struggling students. Just to give them an extra boost so they don't fall even farther behind.

Having tablets in my classroom will make my class exciting and will take my students on a mysterious journey.

It will help them retain more information and get a greater understand of the world around them. It will also give them hands on opportunities with technology to be ready for the tech world today. I really hope it opens their eyes to many different possibilities and gives them a strong love of learning.
