My Students

Teaching American Sign Language is unlike any other subject. Not only do we learn a new language, but we learn about new people and a new culture. What's lucky for my students and I is that we are located in Southern California close to California State University, Northridge where many Deaf families/people reside. My students have daily opportunities to interact with Deaf people on campus and off! My students are a part of a diverse campus and adding ASL to their repertoire makes them more conscious and worldy, which makes for well-rounded citizens of our community!

I try to instill the passion of American Sign Language in all of my students, because it truly is a life skill that they can take with them even after high school!

Working with my students, I see their drive and their willingness to learn about others and I want to make sure they learn all that they can! I want them to be comfortable using the skills we've practiced in class and use them to make new friends with Deaf people and consider being a part of a the community as a Deaf Community Ally!

My Project

Having a Cricut EasyPress in the classroom for my students and for our club to use will not only help spark creativity, but help us create our own materials to help showcase what we do on campus and the community! American Sign Language is a growing field of study and my students are highly dedicated to learning more and more. They want to show the school how important learning ASL is to them! By making our own t-shirts, sweaters, stickers, and accessories to help promote our ASL program, we can achieve an environment where students are encouraged to be involved and participate!

By donating to my project, you will help my students and I create materials and accessories that we can use in the classroom with each other, but also materials we can share with the entire student body and campus!

My goal, our goal, is to spread awareness of American Sign Language, Deaf culture, and the Deaf community to our school. We want to encourage other students to learn with us. By making stickers and other posters, promotional or otherwise, we can be more visible on campus! The more people learn about ASL and Deafness, the more understanding our community will be. Getting visibility is step 1! The materials in this project will help out our program tremendously!
