Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach in a high-poverty area of Los Angeles. The majority of my students are part of the free lunch program and come from low socio-economic home environments. Having money for food and other household expenses takes priority over buying learning games, books, or technology.

Due to the pandemic, we are learning virtually and lack many of the resources that we used daily in class to make the lessons more invigorating such as manipulatives and hands on activities.

Even though we are online, my Kindergarten students deserve all the necessary resources to help them learn. I want to give my Kindergarten students a great first school experience that inspires them to develop a love of reading, writing, math, and science even through engaging online lessons.

My Project

There are several online resources from Teacher's Pay Teachers that my students can use at home on with their Chrome Books to practice skills and concepts that I am teaching. Many of these slides can such as counting, alphabet concepts, and others can be used on platforms that we are currently using such as Seesaw or just on their Chrome books.

Since we have just started a new Math program, there are Power Points that I can use to teach them and having a visual of my lesson can be can get my students more engaged in learning the what I am teaching as opposed to only hearing me talk.
