Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a 6th grade Social Studies teacher at a Title 1 school (low socioeconomic income). I teach 4 classes each with 30 students. Each class is compromised of hard working, over achieving students. My Newcomer's class encompasses children from all over the world whom recently arrived to the country and are on a journey of acquiring the English language as well as learning content related curriculum.

We pride ourselves in developing global citizens all seeking to lead by example, changing the world one step at a time utilizing the 7 habits of Highly Effective Teens.

In order to continue with this vision we must be able to equip them with the adequate resources.

My Project

TIME For Kids carefully interweaves and supports ELA standards and Social Studies skills that build to college and career readiness:

Motivation has been demonstrated to be a factor in student achievement.

The currency of events and topics in TIME For Kids and TIME Edge materials helps educators motivate all students.

-Literacy and Reading: Understanding how to identify and analyze key ideas, details, elements of craft and structure in a work; the integration of knowledge and ideas in (especially) informational text; and to read and understand a range of different types of informational texts.

-Writing: Understanding different types of texts and their different purposes; producing original writing; and using research to build knowledge.

-Speaking and Listening: Focusing on comprehension, collaboration, and coherently presenting original knowledge and ideas.

Reading:Practicing and developing the skills to read,understand,and interpret History/Social Studies, Science, and Technical Subjects.

VocabularyDevelopment:Developing academic,technics land domain-specific vocabulary in Social Studies/History, Science and Math.

CriticalThinking:Distinguishing fact,opinion,reasonedjudgment,andspeculationin reading and thinking.

VisualMedia:Interpreting visualized data,e.g.,fromgraphs,charts,and maps.

Problem-Based Learning: Activities provide for learner-guided, critical-thinking skills to be applied and demonstrated.
