Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach seventh grade students who are diverse, enthusiastic and eager to learn. Ninety-two percent of our school community comes from low income families with free or reduced price lunch. The parents struggle to provide their children with the necessary, but expensive schools supplies.

Many of the parents work two to three jobs just to put food on the table and are unable to afford simple supplies such as computers, headphones, notebook and folders.

As a Social Studies teacher, it is my goal to foster their education and connect their knowledge and skills to the "real world". I feel it is my responsibility to teach my students safely. Each student holds a special place in my heart and by providing them with better technology and a clean work environment it will alleviate the stress of learning and the joy of learning can take its place.

My Project

This Microsoft Surface Go tablet will reach more than one student, it will reach over a hundred. The current school year brings about many challenges for small group learning. This tablet will allow me to offer additional help with alternate resources to the students who are struggling. In addition, I am also teaching a dual language program with some students who are not fluent in Spanish.

Having this tablet will allow me to translate documents and provide a visual support for those who may be struggling to learn the content.

As a Social Studies teacher it is also important to incorporate primary sources and images from the past. The tablet will allow me to show those images clearly without having to print black and white copies which often diminish the importance of the illustration.
