My Students

I teach in an urban school where 100% of my students are enrolled in a free or reduced fee lunch program. My classroom consists of enthusiastic and eager learners who defeats the statistics place upon them by society. They show up every day ready to jump in and engage in the lesson. Their minds are filled with wonder as they participate and ask unimaginable questions to expand their knowledge. They are especially motivated when a bit of healthy competition is incorporated into the learning process. With remote learning, it has been fun incorporating technology to encourage healthy competition through engaging activities. My students are motivated and eager learners who strive to break the norms placed upon them. They are hard workers who strives to improve in after school sessions after an eight-hour school day.

My Project

Due to COVID-19 we transitioned to remote learning for a little over a year. As we transitioned to various platforms to implement our lessons it has become difficult to keep track of the students, lessons, and the various platforms on a single screen. Due to budget cuts, my school was unable to purchase additional screens for teachers to navigate through all the additional window we have to keep opened. The lack of an additional screen not only delays lessons but more importantly it effects the engagement of my students. Many times students have their hand raised to ask questions, or they would have questions typed into the chat. Many times I do not see these questions or know that their hands were up until after the class due to all the other platforms I must track on a single screen. With an additional screen monitor, I hope to be able to track my students screen icons and chat on one screen while monitoring the necessary programs for the lesson on the other screen. The hardest part of remote teaching right now is being able to connect to my students. Being able to see their faces when they accomplish or understand a concept or even their faces of curiosity will definitely help in closing this gap.
