Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Science and technology go hand-in-hand. My colleagues and I are working towards making our Chemistry classroom one that allows students access to ideas about the smallest particles of matter in a visual way.

Science is a subject that is constantly changing.

Many of the newer advances in science are not in any textbook and can not be easily described through writing. Most of my students receive free lunch, and come in with very low skills, including about 30% of our students receiving special education services. By having a class set of netbooks in our room, we can give our students access to the latest news in science.

My Project

I am requesting one Netbook computer for the 11th grade. Currently our 9th and 10th grade science classes each have a set of netbooks. With the Google suite of tools (email, documents, calendars) our students are learning how to collaborate electronically. Additionally, they are learning how to conduct science research, listening to and creating science podcasts as well as other such creative, technologically advanced endeavors. We strongly believe that these new 21st-century skills will help our students to succeed in subsequent science courses, in college, and in the workplace. When they enter the 11th grade next year they are going to be technology-less!!! With "One Netbook Per Child," our students will have the opportunity to continue using their new-found technology skills to learn science. They will be extremely familiar with the technology and eager to add to their impressive list of tech-y skills.

Donors like you have already helped to transform our ninth and 10th grade classrooms into the kind of motivating, engaging 21st-century science learning environments that my students deserve.

Your donation will help our students to have a consistent experience as they go through every year of science at our school.
