My Students

Hello, my students range in age from 14-18 and all have moderate to severe special needs. Student needs range from orthopedic, intellectual disabilities, speech/communication, behavioral and many other special needs. The students I work with in particular, have many different sensory input needs. My students are loving, communicative, every day learners. These great kids, however, have a very difficult time showing others how they feel and what they are thinking. Every day is a challenge, that is why it is so important to make every day and every opportunity count!

My Project

The materials provided will give the students an opportunity with hands-on activities that involve real life situations. By using measuring cups, mixing bowls, baking supplies, etc. they can apply their math measurement skills to complete a recipe. When provided with a microwave it allows the students to understand time and change. Ice cream makers allows students to work on their math skills and hand eye coordination in one setting. Our students with special needs are able to see and practice skills that will be useful in the community while working in their jobs. The materials purchased will help students increase measurement skills in math and in real life.
