Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

It is my goal for my students, most of which are immigrants and/or refugees who are first time English language learners from a variety of Latin American countries, who migrate to the US seeking freedom, opportunity and pursuing the American Dream to develop financial literacy skills. Additionally many of my students are special needs student. After discussing the importance of earning, investing, and saving, our kiddos will have the opportunity to earn classroom money for things such as performing their class jobs, attending school on a daily basis, doing their homework, performing acts of kindness, and going above and beyond while meeting academic expectations. They will have access to the classroom online bank using class tablets with requested charging cables and will be given time to deposit and withdraw play money earned from their accounts. We will then establish a classroom store stocked and supplied with the requested materials: treats, fidget toys, school supplies and incentives, as well as existing snacks and displayed in the requested metal storage rack and bins. Every week, the students will take turns running the classroom store while their classmates shop with the money they have earned. The students will use the money saved to purchase/invest in items such as incentives (pencils, erasers, fidget toys, bracelets, magnetic toys and treats). The students will build their knowledge of financial literacy and strengthen their math skills by using online bank accounts. They will print out account information and create a journal with financial data.
It is my hope that by engaging in this financial literacy unit of study, my students will learn the importance of earning, investing, and saving money.
