I teach all-day kindergarten and it is a busy, active classroom. My students are curious, intelligent, and energetic.
Many of my students are English language learners and come from a variety of cultures and backgrounds.
In my classroom, we learn to celebrate our differences and find the things we have in common.
My Project
My classroom is diverse, and my students come from many different cultures and backgrounds. I teach all-day kindergarten, and it is a long day for some students. Teaching during the pandemic has been challenging. My students live in refugee housing and homeless shelters, they don't always know where their next meal is coming from, and they fear being exposed to germs and getting sick from COVID.
I try to provide a clean, safe, comfortable classroom for my students to come to each day.
One of their favorite spots in the classroom is our class library. I would love to provide flexible seating to the library to add variety and create more opportunities for engagement. I would also like to provide a more diverse selection of books so more of my students can relate to and recognize their own customs and cultures in the stories they read. I feel that this improvement to our classroom will help promote that safe, comfortable environment I am trying to create for my students during this stressful and uncertain time.
