My Students

Once upon a time in a music room far away lived many friendly creatures hiding away in a closet waiting to be displayed for the world to see! Our puppet friends want to come out to play more often than they do. If only we had puppet trees/stands for them to live on instead of the deep dark closet!

My K-4 elementary students come from a very Caucasian low to middle class Mid-western community.

Despite the everyday challenges that they encounter, their smiles and endless energy are the first things that I notice in the morning when they walk through my door. My students LOVE to come to music because they know they can experiment, perform, play, inspire, explore, create, and soak in ALL experiences and life changing moments that occur in the elementary music classroom. Role Playing with various puppets and visuals, playing instruments, dancing, singing, and exploring our new music technology devices are among the many favorite activities that we experiment with in the music classroom on a daily basis. Our community of teachers and administration share the enthusiasm of excellence in learning in our building which includes supporting the arts in education as well as encouraging students to go for their dreams! I consider it a pleasure to be able to nurture my students everyday.

My Project

With the purchase of puppet displays/stands for my classroom, students would have more opportunities to experiment, create, and explore with their musical gifts and dramatic natures on an individual basis as well as in groups. In my classroom, we use puppets to not only role play but to also teach aspects/elements of music. When a child puts on a puppet, they magically become that character. Even the most timid child transforms into a new being. It amazes me how many children come out of their "shells" when using a puppet. Social and motor skills are enhanced by using puppets. Self-Esteem is boosted and kids feel more free to express themselves. Earning funds for these much needed puppet trees/stands would only enhance our musical, social, and creative adventures!! By supporting this project, your funds will inspire and transform the gifts and talents that every child is born with! Without the proper opportunities to cultivate their gifts, their dreams/goals cannot grow/happen!

As stated earlier, having the means to access the classroom puppet collection would allow my students more opportunities to build social/character skills, communication arts skills, musical talents, dramatic/role playing moments, and SO much more.

Puppets add extreme character to any classroom. By helping fund this project, you will be assisting in the nurturing of students from all backgrounds, cultures, etc. Students today need much love/support to become productive adults for their future!
