My Students

My students are very eager and excited learners. They are from a low SES community where we do whatever it takes to make things happen. Most students are of ethnic decent, with the majority being African American and Latino. My students come from a community where parents are eager to work with teachers and other stakeholders in order to provide the best education for their children with limited to no funding. The neighborhood has many challenges, but our school stands as the bright light and safe haven for our students.

My Project

During these unprecedented times where everything has changed so has Physical Education at our school. Students will no longer be able to have Phys. Ed. in the gymnasium. Instead Phys. Ed. will be "On-The-Go", in various unpredictable settings and various available open spaces in and around the building.

These materials will make a difference in student learning by enabling them to safely be active and receive sound instruction in non-traditional unpredictable environments.

The spot markers will enable students to keep appropriate social distancing while exercising. The megaphone will allow instruction to be audible in unpredictable and sometimes very noisy spaces. The whistle will be used as a signal for attention during instruction. The yoga mats will enable students to safely exercise in a different planes. Lastly, the weighted cone sets will be used to establish boundaries for safety.

There is no way to meet all changing educational needs during these unprecedented times. However, this project will help my students get off to a good start that is safe, clear, engaging and somewhat normal for learning in Physical Education "On-The-Go"!
