I teach an incredibly fun group of AVID Juniors. AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. My students are all focused on one goal - graduating high school and attending a 4-year university. Most of my students are first generation college bound students and through the program learn a lot about 4-year universities.
My students come from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds but they all work hard to develop self-advocacy, form good study habits, and be overall well-round students.
Their will to succeed is truly inspiring.
My Project
This book will reinforce the print-rich classroom that I am trying to instill. Some of my students do not have much access to print reading throughout their school day.
This book will provide my students with a step-by-step guide to help them get from where they are to where they want to be in the future.
Through the book, my students and I will initiate and develop discussions about seven habits that can be utilized to work through tough issues and life-changing decisions. Some of the topics discussed in the book are in regards to achieving their goals, appreciating their parents, and tackling challenges of our time such as cyber bullying and social media.
