My Students

My students are an adorable diverse group of 5 and 6-year-olds. They are so enthusiastic and motivated to learn. It is so inspiring to watch them work together to help each other grow! My students come in September with many unique abilities and various starting points, but all are eager to learn. Each student has their own learning style, so I strive to meet each of their needs. One of the most rewarding aspects of teaching kindergarteners is the amazing growth from September to June.

My Project

Learning to read in kindergarten is the most exciting time for my 5 and 6-year-olds. The research shows that having a strong foundation in phonics is so important to becoming a great reader. I’m looking to give them authentic reading experiences practicing the phonics skills we are learning in the books we read. Unfortunately, right now we do not have books that match the phonic skills we are teaching, and we have to hunt for books to try and match it. With these sets of readers, it will allow me to teach the phonics skills needed while boosting up their confidence as readers!
