My Project

The items I am requesting will help my students with classical (old school) drawing skills such as still life and human anatomy.

First, I am asking for chargeable desk lamps.

These lamps will create a focused light source specific to the still life being worked on. Our classroom is in an actual old school, and the lighting comes from fluorescent ceiling lights that can not be altered in direction, number, or brightness.

Second, I am asking for power strips with long chords. The art room is a very large room with very few power outlets. Having power strips with long chords will allow students to charge the desk lamps without having to move them from the tables.

Finally, I am asking for human figure mannequins and human hand mannequins.

Human anatomy is one of the more difficult of the classical drawing skills. These tools will allow students more opportunities to practice this skill as well as more choice in the poses and lighting of the composition they are creating.

While it is possible to practice drawing figures from photos. The depth and the contour of a figure is more accurate when seen firsthand by the human eye. Consider if you will, Trying to take a photo of a big beautiful moon or sunset. The photo may still be very pretty but it never has the impact of when you see it with the human eye.
