My Students
I am an administrator and supervise 3 programs for high school and transition (age 18-21) students. Our transition teachers focus their instruction on the three pillars of transition. Independent Living, Career & Employment, and Post-Secondary Education. My students all receive special education services for a variety of different disabilities.
My students need to be able to connect with their peers online and in-person to appropriately build the skills they are working on, and to meet their social & emotional learning needs.
The global pandemic has forced our district to think of innovative ways to deliver education to our students. Currently, our students in a Hybrid model where only half of the students are in the building on any given day. This makes it difficult to hold meaningful conversations with peers online and in-person learning at the same time.
My Project
The current inequities in education are only accentuated during our current pandemic because of the technology divide. By providing webcams to students who are home and also providing a webcam for classrooms, students will have minimal disruption in their education from the pandemic.
Students need to see one another each day in order to continue to build their educational community and not feel further isolated.
Research shows that the primary reason that students attend school is for social interaction with their peers and educators. By using webcams at students' homes and in classrooms, students will continue to stay engaged in their education.
