Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I’m a second-grade teacher in Miami, Florida and I teach a wide variety of culturally diverse students from different economic backgrounds. As a result, many of them have limited access to academic resources at home.

My goal as an early childhood educator is to create an environment to support all learning styles.

Second grade is such an exhilarating age group as children are learning to become more independent and responsible. My students are looking forward to expanding their knowledge and are eager to learn in different ways.

My Project

This project will make a great impact on my students’ learning because it will allow them to use technology that many are unable to access from home. Although I have an accessible computer in our classroom, my school opened this year and does not currently have a media center. Our school has purchased a variety of helpful software that will assist in expanding student-learning. However, with limited computers in the classroom, it is difficult to provide the necessary time for all students to use them.

Having a few laptops and tablets in the classroom will allow my students to have technology available during small-group, STEM, and differentiated instruction.

Many of my students are English Language Learners and can highly benefit from the programs that my school offers, such as: iReady, Reading Plus, Flocabulary, Myon, Reflex Math, etc.

Aside from reading and math, this technology will also provide support in other subject areas and skills. My students recently learned how to safely research topics and people online which will greatly prepare them for what’s to come in the upper grades. I have noticed my students with an increasing amount of interest on researching topics and events that have been discussed this year and would love to give them extra opportunities to do so with these laptops.
