This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Their level of engagement is through the roof and the success that follows is incomparable. Our future needs access to more technology!

This school year is filled with many "firsts".

I am a first year teacher, teaching the first grade at a brand new school. Our school may look small when you look at the size of our building, but once you are inside one of our classrooms you can feel our sense of community is much larger than the walls can contain. My first grade class has 23 amazing students; each with a giant appetite for learning that grows more and more each day.

My Project

First grade is a very important year in a student's life. The educational transition after Kindergarten can be quite difficult for many students. My students are across the board when it comes to their reading levels and number recognition. Having access to an iPad, can easily level the educational playing field. My struggling students can use interactive apps to help them with their counting, sight word recognition and basic phonics skills. My excelling students will be able to stay challenged with apps that can offer higher leveled books than our small, but slowly growing classroom library. There is not a day that has gone by that we have not used our interactive white board. Even at a few weeks into the school year, my students still light up with excitement when they are called to the board to write a word, to complete a math problem or to participate in an educational game. With only one white board pen, student participation is limited. An iPad would be the perfect addition!

Many years ago, having access to technology in the classroom was categorized as an optional, "extra" resource.

Flash-forward to today, student engagement thrives on technology. The type of activities that students can have access to through educational apps and downloadable books would not only be fundamental to their learning, but enjoyable as well. Help me make learning fun and creative in a classroom filled with my students that love technology!
