Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

So many things have been turned around in this world due to COVID-19... now imagine this rapid change of events when you are 5 or 6-years-old and a kindergarten student in school for the very first time.

We left school on a Friday, and with no explanation never returned to the building.

While I comprehend what is happening currently, the majority of my students do not understand why we chat on the computer and why we don't come to school anymore.

Many students in my school come from low-income housing. We have some families in temporary housing and other students who are bussed in from local neighborhoods.

My Project

Over the years as a kindergarten teacher, I've had parents present me with their own copy of Dr. Suess' "Oh The Places You'll Go!" and ask me to write a special message inside for their child. The goal is to secretly have all their children's teachers write a message at the end of each school year so they can be presented this most special memory book at the completion of high school or beyond.

I'd love the opportunity to start this tradition for each of my students during this odd time of remote learning, as their kindergarten teacher, by giving each child their own copy of "Oh The Places You'll Go" with a special message hand-written inside to reward them for their hard work this year!

The learning benefits of this book are just incredible! In addition, my students have been working so hard to learn from home... all during their first real year in school.

I think this would be such a special way to end kindergarten with the hidden messages inside for all their future teachers to write inside of and contribute to each students' life journey and story!
