My Students

Perseverance is the first word that comes to mind when I think about my students. With the challenge of dealing with the destruction caused by Hurricane Harvey and many of them losing their homes, perseverance is indeed the word of choice. They came to me afraid, and unsure, but we managed to make it through the year. Some do not speak English, and some have never seen a computer. I want to introduce technology into their lives to help them bridge the gap in language and learning through different content learning apps, and help prepare the students for a future with technology.

These students come from different types of lifestyles and each student deserves their best chance at an education that prepares them for obstacles they may face in the future.

With technology that chance becomes a little better. Please help me help these children by giving them a gift of technology.

My Project

With the use of Samsung Galaxy Tablets, the students will have access to several different apps and learning modes that will aid them in their learning development. Do you remember the first time someone introduced you to something you hadn't seen before? Did it change your perception of learning? Did it inspire you to be better or challenge yourself further? That's my focus with my students. Technology is a massive part of our society, and these children need to have access and be taught proper use and implementation in order to keep up and connect with the world around them. College for some of them isn't an option, but my goal is to ensure that it is. I know that these students will be better prepared and equipped for a college and career if given the opportunity. With a boost in technology in the classroom, we can better close the gap and lead these students to a successful future. I hope you are able to see the value in this project and are able to help the inner city children of Houston. I have only requested 6 tablets to also be able to teach my students teamwork, as I feel this is also a valuable quality for their age as well as in the future. I also added a printer so that assignments can be submitted on demand when the students need them instead of using time in the day to make copies outside of the room. This will be beneficial to these students and their success. Thank you!
