Oh the Places They'll Go!

My students need exciting books for our classroom library. I want to encourage them to read by introducing Dr. Seuss books and using a "special" reading chair for reading time in the classroom.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach at a Title I school, where my students come from low socio-economic backgrounds. The majority of my students are on free or reduced lunch, some have learning disabilities and are English language learners.

Despite these challenges, they still come to school eager to learn.

I am excited that I get to witness my students' learning and growing!

I believe that reading is the foundation for success. I want my students to enjoy reading, so I am incorporating Dr. Seuss in my classroom to motivate my students to read. Dr. Seuss books teach young children different strategies for reading and writing, while also encouraging students to read fun stories.

My Project

My project is to introduce exciting books by Dr. Seuss to encourage my students to read. My students come from low socio-economic backgrounds, most are English Language Learners and they do not always have access to books. If I have books in my classroom, I am able to give my students the access to reading that they deserve. I will introduce a new book each month, and as a class we will find the different strategies that Dr. Seuss used in his writing, such as, rhyming and poetry. These strategies are also important for English Language Learners to see and hear in stories.

As Dr. Seuss once said, "The more that you read the more you will know, the more that you know the more places you'll go." I truly believe that reading can change a life, so I take special emphasis to motivate my students to read.

I will incorporate Dr. Seuss books in all of our lessons throughout the school year for students.

I have asked for a few items for my classroom library. First, I have asked for a set of 34 Dr. Seuss books for students to read in my classroom library. I have also asked for a pack of assorted plastic bins to store books in the classroom library and a boundary chair for students to sit in to read. This chair will encourage students to read by allowing them to sit-back, relax and read.
