My Students

"The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more you learn, the more places you'll go." Dr. Seuss, "I Can Read With My Eyes Shut!".... I am a second year, special education teacher in a high needs school in Brooklyn. My students would benefit greatly from your assistance.

My students are special needs 4th and 5th graders who have come prepared for an awesome year of learning.

Though most are a few levels below their counterparts in general education, they are anxious to tackle the new common core initiatives. However, due to their low levels in reading, they are faced with obstacles that may prove even greater when coupled with the specific demands and rigor of the new requirements of the CCLS.

My Project

A listening station would facilitate literacy for my learners who are at least three reading levels behind their general education counterparts. This listening station and leveled reading will give the students an opportunity to listen to and read with books that have been recorded according to their specific reading levels. Not only will they be able to make word associations, but get assistance in decoding and phonemic understanding of words. Leveled books will also assist in this endeavor as the goal is to have all students reading on grade level by June.

As a special needs educator, I have taken on the responsibility of teaching my students that having a disability does not define who they are.

Your donations will facilitate the tools that will ensure the academic excellence that I have assured them is well within their reach. The classroom expectations are set high as no child can rise to low expectations. My students are ready to work and your generous giving will enable them to achieve more than they imagined they could. Thank you.
