Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My school is a title I school, meaning most students come from low income households. My students include dyslexics and newcomers. My newcomers come from different countries, mostly in the middle east. Some of them are refugees. My dyslexics are either not reading or reading way below grade level. My newcomers don't understand the language, some have gone through a lot in their country. Despite this, they are all eager to learn to read. They know that my classroom is their safe zone. At times, I see their frustration, but it's the little achievements that motivate them. They like coming in and don't want to leave.

My Project

The technology devices will enrich my students reading. It will give them the opportunity to listen to audio books. This way, they are able to listen and enjoy the same book their class is reading and talk about it with their classmates. They will also be able to choose from a variety of books on their independent level. They struggle to read, but they love listening to a good story. The iPad and Chromebook will also give them the opportunity to have a multisensory way for learning. They can have visuals for vocabulary, music for different skills they are learning, and typing opportunities for my dyslexics who struggle with spelling.
