My Students

Research has shown that students who are in classrooms with well-stocked libraries read more and become better readers. For this reason, I'm requesting high quality literature for students to take home this summer.

I'm blessed to have the unique opportunity to work with some of the best kids.

We are a title one school. My class has 18 vibrant personalities, primarily ELL students. More than 80 percent of my class is free lunch and could benefit from additional literature to read during the summer.

My Project

My students need 20 copies of Oh, The Places You'll Go! to use for summer reading. As struggling readers, many of my first graders have missed key reading experiences such as being read to for pleasure. Having their own books at home during the summer months will ensure my students have the materials to enhance their home reading experience with a treasured author.

The biggest challenge for my students is building reading confidence and transitioning from easy readers to high quality literature.

Having engaging and accessible books will provide my kids with the opportunity to practice summer reading with grade appropriate books that will inspire lifetime readers.
