Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Everyday students are given independent reading time, with their level books. I want to see my students consumed in their reading. I want to teach them to love the art of reading, however this is a hard because we don't have enough level books. We also need a variety of genres to provide options.

My students are curious individuals that love to learn.

Every time I present a new genre they are eager to learn more about it. Unfortunately, for the majority of my students our class library is the only place they have access to books. They don’t have near by bookstores and for some the neighborhood library is not an option. If I want to nurture their love of learning and inspire them to fall deeply in love with books we need the resources.

My Project

Have you ever read a book that your so involve with that the entire world around you ceases to exist? That the mere thought of being pulled away from it makes you cringe? I want my students to experience that deep love for reading. These books will be used for class discussions, partner work, and research purposes but most importantly for independent reading. However, the only way to truly achieve that is to present them with a variety of leveled genres so they can choose what interests them at their level.

With the options of books their levels and different genres they can be free to pick what they want rather then be stuck with what is there.

When we are truly free to pick what we want we unnoticeably fall deep within the pages and lose ourselves. These students will become readers, inventors, adventurous, etc. I will be able to provide my students with the opportunity to grow as readers and support their curiosity.
