My Students

Did you ever want to put an item away, but had no where to put it? My students need a place to organize their items in way that is respectful and responsible, especially since there aren't any desks in our room.

My students are fifth graders in a Title One Public School.

The children sit at tables, which facilitates cooperative learning and group work, but hinders the need for a space of their own. Books, journals, and notebooks find their way to the floor where they are often ripped and misplaced. Art supplies are often lost, broken, or thrown out. The children need a safe place to store their materials--by doing so, they learn the value of organization and responsibility.

My Project

In fifth grade, students strive for independence and personal space. Using the cubbies, reinforces their personal space and builds independence by allowing students to go to their cubbies and retrieve the items they need when they need them. Each child will receive a cubby and a slot. The cubbies act as places where the students can place all of their school supplies. It helps alleviate the problem of lost materials, while instilling a sense of responsibility--knowing that there is a place for all of their items. The slots act as an accountability tool. When the students have unfinished work, they slide their work into the slot. At a glance, I can see which students are falling behind with their work and I can take the necessary steps needed to help the children complete their work.

This donation makes a difference, not only for this class, but for future classes.
