This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students need to read something that allows them to critically think and analyze a story as well as find ways to make their reading relevant to their own lives. They want to learn, and I want to teach them; Of Mice And Men would be a great resource for my 9th graders.

I have always taught 9th grade English and every year I have students who are eager to learn but do not want to begin.

My high school is located in an area of the high desert where my students know very little about the world outside the desert boundaries. In my lessons I try to expose them to readings and writings that allow them to critically think and analyze the diversity and adversity of the characters.

My Project

Having enough copies of John Steinbeck's Of Mice And Men would allow my students to work in collaborative reading groups and participate in discussion. A class set is most appropriate in my class because there should be no excuse for a student to not have a specific reading book in class.

Ideally, I would like a book per student so they can take the book home and read it (that was my first DonorsChoose Project), but this time around I realized a class set would be most appropriate because it would supply a student to read a copy in class.

My lessons include group and independent work that would engage my students in both the reading and writing process as well as critical and creative thinking.
