My Students

My first graders live in a diverse neighborhood consisting of hard working people and unfortunately, many bad influences. Their parents often work more than one job to make ends meet. Many parents are English language learners themselves and cannot always help the students with their homework. They are lucky to attend a school that may be poor but has an administration with bold ambitions for them.

All children imagine themselves to be artists!

Mine are no exception. Whatever topic we are studying, they throw themselves into the joy of creating art.

My Project

Learning should be fun and one of the best ways to enjoy learning is to create art to go along with your subject areas. It's truly astounding how much rigorous school work is expected of 6 year olds these days. I want to make it enjoyable for them.

Think back in time....which school projects do you remember best?

The ones where you got to create an art project, of course! Whether it was creating a model of a medieval village or a native American lodge or a model of the solar system, this is the learning that stays with us.

We will be using these paints and brushes for projects in all subjects as art can be included in math, science and social studies, as well as reading and writing.
