This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Having a calm corner in every classroom offers students a valuable tool for emotional regulation and overall well-being. In Odyssey's rigorous educational environment, students are often faced with academic pressures, social challenges, and personal stressors that can hinder their ability to focus and learn. A calm corner provides a designated space where students can practice self-regulation strategies, such as deep breathing, mindfulness, or brief sensory breaks, allowing them to reset and return to learning with a clearer mindset. By normalizing the use of calm corners, schools foster a culture that prioritizes mental health and emotional literacy, teaching students lifelong skills for managing stress and emotions.

Additionally, calm corners contribute to a more inclusive and supportive classroom environment.

Students with anxiety, sensory sensitivities, or emotional challenges benefit from having a safe space where they can de-escalate without feeling singled out. This proactive approach to addressing emotional needs reduces disruptive behaviors and helps prevent minor frustrations from escalating into larger conflicts. Moreover, calm corners promote empathy and emotional awareness among all students, as they learn to recognize and respect the need for self-care and emotional boundaries. Ultimately, incorporating calm corners in every classroom creates a healthier, more compassionate learning environment where all students have the opportunity to thrive.
