Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My class is comprised of 55 fifth graders in a general education class, with students with IEP and ELL learners and special education students such as students with autism.

A typical day in my classroom looks active.

My students are engaged in learning activities that get them moving, talking to their peers, and asking great questions. You will not see a lot of worksheets in my classroom. My students are learning through hands-on experiences.

I teach in a Title I school.

My fifth-grade students come from very diverse families. I am excited to share that my school is a genuinely diverse community. Not only do students come from varying ethnic backgrounds and places, but the life experiences that they’ve had are incredibly unique. My scholars are creative, thoughtful, and full of excitement!

My students are 9 and 10-year children that love coming to school. When school was closed in the spring of 2020 due to the pandemic, not only were the kids wanting to come back but we missed seeing their smiling faces every day.

My Project

Universities and their students are using virtual reality technologies to learn and train, it is time to prepare our students for this future! The future is Virtual Reality!

Students will be able to experience virtual field trips, dive underwater in the Great Barrier Reef to witness the effects of ocean acidification, and collaborate to solve virtual problems or to dissect a virtual frog.

The virtual reality headsets have built-in computers so there are no wires. Students will be safe and free to explore new virtual worlds that will inspire students to explore and understand our real world better. Engaging!

This project uses the Oculus Quest VR systems to explore the application of virtual reality in STEAM. Students will have access to a variety of applications where they will be able to paint, explore physics and chemistry concepts, engineer structures, and make models. Other applications will encourage critical thinking and collaboration as they work in teams to accomplish a variety of goals. The Oculus Quest is a cutting edge virtual reality platform that is sure to bridge the gap between reality and the impossible!

The Oculus Quest headsets will be used in our Virtual Reality unit where students will use the Engineering Design Process to bring their VR projects to life!
